Wow, I Got Owned

I really did not expect this guy to be capable of something like this. I’d been pounding on him a lot, on multiple tables, in and out of position, and he’d been backing down a lot. “Trapping” by slowplaying a big hand is exactly how I’d expect a guy like him to respond. This, I did not expect:

It feels gross to fold a set getting odds like this, and I probably wouldn’t even have folded 44, but I just couldn’t put him on a single worse hand. I certainly don’t think he shoves worse for value, and it’s such a random spot to bluff. There were no missed draws (I thought), and if he had showdown value, I think he’d be more likely than call than turn his hand into a bluff. To be honest, I still don’t mind my fold, though I did feel like a total ass when he showed his hand.

I may have sorta kinda gotten him back?

It’s not impossible that I’m ahead, but there are better hands in his range, too. I think he rarely, if ever, has the straight, though.

  1. Hand 1 … gross fold after committing 73% stack to CR-shove. I know, I know … it seems you beat nothing with bottom set but not entirely impossible for villian to play QQ KK AA like this too.

Hand 2 … I’m fairly certain villian has a hand this time but I’m almost positive it is TT in this spot. It is the smallest overpair to the flop for him to lead out and still stay in to your raise and by the river he loses to virtually all other conceivable PP’s 55-AA. If it was not for the villian’s 4-bet preflop and say he only flat your 3-bet, maybe he possibly hero calls you on river thinking you may still been steaming from the Hand 1 bluff.

Somehow winning back $458 after missing out on the $2907 pot leaves one feeling soooo unsatisified ….

    • Hand 1- He’s not playing an overpair like this for value. And he’ not turning one into a bluff either. Pot odds notwithstanding, 33 is the bottom of my value range, so it’s not so surprising that I’d be folding it to a raise, particularly given the dearth of bluffs in his range.

Hand 2- I’m far from certain he 4-bets TT, but it’s possible. I agree that it’s unsatisfying though!
