Nate and I will be discussing Tommy Angelo’s Elements of Poker for the Thinking Poker Bookclub during the month of April. I figured I’d make a separate post about here since not everyone reads the shownotes. If you’ve never read Elements of Poker, you’re in for a treat. It’s perhaps my favorite poker book, totally unlike any other that you’ve read, and one of the few that is actually enjoyable to read simply for the poetry of its language.
For those who don’t know, the Thinking Poker Bookclub is a new segment of the show during which we discuss a different book each month. We just wrapped up discussion of our March book, Playing the Player, with a guest appearance by author Ed Miller. Each week, we discuss a different part of the book and answer listener questions and comments.
Here’s the schedule for this month
Episode 26 (April 3) – Part I: Universal Elements, p. 1 – 84
Episode 27 (April 10) – Parts II – V, p. 85 – 174
Episode 28 (April 17) – Parts VI – IX, .p 175 – 250
Episode 29 (April 24) – The whole book with guest Tommy Angelo!
So pick up a copy, get reading, and send us your questions via @ThinkingPoker on Twitter or podcast@thinkingpoker.net.
Suggestions.
1. Can we ask questions about the book here as well?
Sometimes when you read questions live, I feel like it would help the listener to have access to the text of the question similar to the way you do it when discussing hands. Obviously this applies to longer, more complex questions and not simple ones.
2. When you discuss something on a page from the book, can you also give the general location on the page?
Like instead of just saying page 44, say page 44 last paragraph or something like that as well. I was not able to find some of the references in Ed Miller’s last book while listening to the podcast.
Thanks. I am enjoying the book so far.
Thanks for the suggestions, Carlos. We’ll see what we can do. And thanks for listening!
