My latest poker strategy article, “Way Ahead/Way Behind and Other Common Situations“, is now appearing in the January edition of Two Plus Two Magazine. It re-examines the standard advice for way ahead/way behind situations and then applies that logic to similar sorts of situations:
The term “way ahead/way behind situation” is often bandied about on the Two Plus Two forums and elsewhere, but not always in very helpful ways. As is often the case with shorthand, it tends to obscure and short-circuit thinking to the extent that it makes conversation more efficient.
That said, this and related terms can provide a helpful framework for thinking about common poker situations. They key is to permit them to spur independent thinking rather than take the place of it. As we’ll see in a moment, the standard advice for way ahead/way behind situations is not always correct.
Any situations I left out?
