I’m playing the Main Event Day 1B on Monday, getting into Atlantic City Sunday evening. If any readers are going to be in AC for the tournament or any other reason, drop me a line and maybe we can get a beer or something.

Kinda surprised you didn’t stay in Montreal for the WPT.
Ya me too, Maybe he will be back for nov 23/24 day 1a/b of the 3000$ main event???
He won’t. I left Montreal at the end of September, would have been a long time to wait for a WPT! My girlfriend lives in Pittsburgh now so I’m with her when I’m not on the road. Shortish drive to Atlantic City, and there’s actually a $1K here the weekend of the WPT Montreal.
So I know the travel costs are a factor but they are expecting 600+ day 1a…
I still think with so many locals playing the first “big event” in Montreal it is almost disgustingly +ev for you…(so sick it is a re-entry, so much dead money)
just saying…I am sure you have other factors to consider.
That does sound big. Appreciate the heads up. Still not likely to travel Thanksgiving weekend for it though.
Interested in your impression of the 1K this weekend(structure/management of the tournament/level of competition, etc.) I played a tournament last week in a feeble attempt to get enough scratch to play some of this week’s events(got 7th, paid 5…10s vs Qs BoB-AIPF) My poker league starts up Saturday night so it’s probably for the better… In the meantime, good luck this week and Happy Thanksgiving!
Having not yet played it, I will say that the 1K was the only event I considered playing based on the rake. Even that is high the lower buyin stuff is probably borderline unbeatable considering they will also have small fields and poor structures (I assume).
The Borgata series always have huge turnouts with people firing multiple bullets so there will definitely be great value in the main. Not sure what the montreal event guarantee is like, but the borgata main carries a $1M. Hard to find better value than that. Not to mention the cash game action is some of the juiciest ever during these series in AC.
andrew, I’m assuming you’re planning on being in AC through Wednesday? I may be playing in the Wednesday $230. If I end up playing I’d love to grab a brew that day. I’m sure you’ll update us with your progress for this event?
Got in last night, sat at three 5/10 tables and one 10/25 table over the course of the night all of which were tougher than the 5/10 mid-day games at Aria last time I was in Vegas. Granted that’s saying only so much, and the 5/10s were all fine games, but none of them were OMGSOSICK.
I’d love to meet up but I’m only going to be here on Wednesday if I final table. Good luck if I don’t see you!
Andrew, it was very nice to meet you in person at Borgata last night. We chatted briefly at the 5-10 table after you moved there from 10-25. I actually got off that same table right before you sat down! Too bad i had to drive home as I’d have loved to play with you… How did you find that game? I’ve been reading your blog for a while now and think you do great work for the poker community. Best of luck to you in the main.
also, I’m 99% sure you know this andrew, but borgata has one of the best tournament poker blogs there is with updates every few minutes about table matchups, big hands and what’s happening. Always good to have some extra info on your opponents. Its at borgatafallpokeropen2012.blogspot.com I keep waiting for them to announce your presence
