Some of you may have seen on Twitter that about two weeks ago, my building lost power and consequently internet while I was still in two tournaments. If I’d been playing exclusively cash games, I would have just quit for a while, but I had a couple hundred dollars in equity tied up in those tournaments, so I frantically drove to the nearest Starbucks.
The traffic light nearest to my building was out, which wasn’t a good sign, but power seemed to be on in downtown Canmore, which was a good sign. I got to the Starbucks just before they closed and locked the doors. Apparently their power was out too, but I guess they had a backup generator, because their internet was still working. They couldn’t sell anything, though, so they didn’t let new customers in but did allow those of us already there to stay for a while. In that time I managed to salvage a min-cash in one of the tournaments, so it was worth the effort to get back online.
A few days ago, Emily was reading The Canmore Leader, our local paper, and found an article about the outage. Apparently,
The power outage was caused by an osprey nesting in town. The raptor dropped debris on FortisAlberta infrastructure and caused the distribution disruption. It’s a phenomenon that is not unheard of in the valley.
This was not a complication I’d envisioned when relocating to a mountain town!
Wow.I am very suprised. You should invest couple hundred $ in UPS.Very easy EV+ decision in your case.
The condor does NOT own you money definitely.
Time to get that hunting license. 🙂
Talk about running bad.
It was nice meeting you and Emily tonight at the comedy show. If you ever want to go out for dinner or drinks give me a shout through e-mail or stop by the store and grab my business card. Ryan and Mel
