My girlfriend was kind enough to let me plan our Valentine’s Day around an interview with Mike and Adam. We spoke for a little over half an hour about all kinds of stuff: blogging, coaching, traveling, and of course strategy.
My only regret is with regard to the last question they asked me, about discussing a current controversy. I paused for a long time trying to choose something good, and then I got self-conscious about how long it was taking and just started talking without really organizing my thoughts. Turns out they edited out the pause anyway, so I wish I’d just taken my time and given a more well thought out response. You can find a more thorough explanation of my take on the ethics of endorsing a certain disreputable site on the premier edition of the Poker Ethicist.
Check me out and please let me know what you think. You should really listen to the whole show, but my interview starts when they return from the break around the 50-minute mark.
Hey, I’m just some random low-stakes player, but I really enjoyed hearing you on the podcast. I’m also now a blog subscriber. Thanks! 🙂
That’s great to hear, thanks!
Andrew, you did a great job. This is a must-listen podcast for me each week, and I think your two appearances are as good as any I’ve heard. It was a very impressive transition from the lifestyle stuff to the discussion of strategy. I’ve heard lots of good/famous players on this show and you are as good as any at describing the strategy in a way even a fan-boy like me can understand.
As you noted, listeners did not notice the pause during the controversy question. I was surprised you went with “UB”, as your position seems to finally becoming the norm, but I took it as a way for you to contrast them with PokerStars, which you did well.
Also, when Adam referenced one of your latest articles, it reminded me I need to catch up on your 2+2 Magazine content. It made me think of your blog and article pieces on “reasons to bet”. Have you published anything on reasons to check, or is it simply when none of the reasons to bet exist?
Thanks.
Thanks, Russ. I’m sure there’s more to checking than the absence of betting, but it’s not as complex a topic, either. I do have a video in the works dealing with various betting lines (bet-check-bet, check-bet-bet, etc.) that I suppose will address this topic.
Hi Andrew,
I think you did very well, and as usual were clear and articulate. The way you put things just fits the way my brain works, and this interview was no exception. I would be buyer #1 if/when you publish a book!
By the way, i’m currently packing for my 2 months trip in South Asia, and just so you know, your voice and writing will be traveling all across asia for the next 2 months, since i packed my ipod with your articles and poker savvy videos. The plan is to come back in two month with a billion new experiences, photographies, and hopefully poker knowledge to be ready to take a new shot at the small/mid stakes when i come back 😉
About the controversy discussion, it’s the kind of thing where if you didn’t point towards it, no one would have noticed since they edited the pause. Also i have to admit that since i live in Paris and haven’t really followed poker news for the last 2 years, i haven’t been aware of the newest scandals in poker, but UB already was a problem 2 years ago!
By the way, how is the “losing weight” resolution going? Did you make a prop bet about it (could be a good motivator) ?
Take care
Fabien
That’s awesome, Fabien, thanks for sharing! And have a great time, of course!
I’m a little behind on my daily exercise goals, but I did lose my two pounds in January. Those are the easiest to lose, though, being post-Christmas pounds. No bets involved, just a personal goal.
