It freaking sucks to river the second nuts and have to make a crying call with it. I’m pretty surprised the guy wasn’t more aggressive with it when I showed so much weakness on the turn, but I can’t see what else he plays like this on the river, let alone what worse hand would call a raise.

How about a hand like 87 or J8? Or does the fact that he didn’t lead the turn rule those out for you? Maybe he gets to river with a hand like 88. Those are the only hands I could see potentially calling a river raise, so you are probably right that there isn’t much point to raising.
Why no continuation bet at the flop (disclaimer: I can’t see any of the suits, so I don’t know if you had any flush potential)
Really impressive. My gut reaction is to value-raise this river, but if we assume he leads Kx hands on the turn, I guess his river leading range is only 88, J8, and weirdly played hands.
