Gettin’ Tricksy Wit’ It

These are both from the Poker Stars weekly $500.

Hand 1, I think re-raising at either opportunity pre-flop makes me look really strong, and pretty much any hand that can stack off to that pre-flop is going to lose a lot on most flops anyway:

I was expecting MP3 to shove a really wide range on the flop, and then again on the turn. I think if I bet the flop I don’t get action from too many worse hands.

  1. “Hand 1, I think re-raising at either opportunity pre-flop makes me look really strong, and pretty much any hand that can stack off to that pre-flop is going to lose a lot on most flops anyway” – Based on that, you are flatting the flop because you afraid of the flopped KKK, I’m assuming (don’t know the 3bet % tendency of MP3). Is that why you’re avoiding raising on the flop?

By his check on the river, I’m assuming your comfortable that he’s avoiding getting stacks in here, therefore knowing that he doesn’t have a monster.

Are you calling down if he 3 barrels you / get it all in?

    • Not at all, I’m worried that he doesn’t have much of anything. AK is pretty much the only worse hand I could see him stacking off with here, and I think he’ll stack off with that no matter what. I’m calling to give him a chance to catch up or continue bluffing.

  2. Hand 1: Why are we not 3betting the initial open? Are you really restealing against a HJ open that tight that you’re worried you’re turning your AA face up? Seems like a pretty clear 3b to me considering that I would expect you to be restealing BTN vs HJ fairly often

    • Maybe strong wasn’t the best way to put it. Given stack sizes, I think he folds way too often to a 3-bet. My 3-bet would probably be in the 13-16K range. Very few people flat call 3-bets out of position (with good reason), which means his options are pretty much to 4-bet shove for 130K or fold. That makes it a good spot to 3-bet light but not so good of a spot to 3-bet AA.

      • I guess I just don’t think he’s going to be folding very often when he opens a 22 BB stack, especially because this is the type of spot where you can be restealing on the light side. Now if you know you have one or two guys that can’t resist squeezing from the blinds then flatting is pretty much perfect. Without knowing that, though, I like 3betting

fwiw you played the hand to perfection after the BB squeezes imo

        • There are so many hardcore squeeze junkies and always-c-bettors these days that I would rather shove hot bamboo shoots under my fingernails than three-bet AA on the button.
