Like the $100 rebuy, this one ran with an overlay. I was only in for $900, so I had like $240 in overlay.
It went down basically the way I expected it to: got some fish to clown off their stacks to me early, then had to play poker with decent players. Two of my tables had at least one high-stakes cash player on my left who is definitively better than I am, which sucks especially in a 6-max format.
This one is vs. Shannon Shorr, it actually got me to post a hand on 2+2 for the first time on months:

This is the hand where I busted, Villain was one of those cash game players I was whining about. I don’t really mind how it went down, I’d been crazy active, and AQ is one of the best hands to shove over a flop raise:

Hand 1: Do you really think betting the river is the best line with the overpair? Both flush draws missed, and villian is almost always betting top pair on the flop, so 9x seems unlikely. I just don’t see too many hands you can get value against. On the other hand, if you check it’s an easy c/c and villian can be bluffing all his XXdd or XXss, and may even value bet with any pair 5s-9s. i just don’t like b/f especially because villian can bluff shove his missed draws
It’s a good question, and I’m not 100% sure betting river is correct. I think a check flop-call turn line looks most like a hand that’s trying to show down cheaply. That’s based more on deep-stacked play, though. I guess with shallower stacks he’ll check draws more often since he can’t call a check-raise. I’m pretty confident he’s not value betting with worse if I check, though. To be honest, I wasn’t expecting a shove. Knowing that that’s a possibility, a check is more appealing, though I’m still not sure it’s best.
I think the decision comes down to 1) whether he will c/c twice with A high and 2) how often will he bluff when checked to, or bluff shove when bet into
I think a player like Shannon is definitely capable of bluffing a ton on the river here, whether you check or bet, which would make c/c preferable over b/f. You’re hand’s strength is super super disguised, so it’s possible he’ll call off the river lightish, but because your hand looks fairly weak I think it’s also very possible that he can just blast away on the river with both his missed draws and his pure air turn-floats.
He may not be value betting worse as often as I initially thought, but considering that he basically never has a 9 I’m just not sure value b/f is going to be >+EV than c/c or b/c (which I do think is actually a viable option, considering that he will be shoving with air some of the time and tht your hand is super under-repped)
Did you see that Shorr went on to win it?
I didn’t, thanks for letting me know!
