The Sunday I’ve Been Waiting For

After more than a year of playing all of the big Sunday internet poker tournaments, I finally won one of the @#$% things. There were 815 entrants in Ultimate Bet’s weekly $215 tournament, but they guarantee a $200K prizepool, so there was an overlay of about 20%. After just over 7 hours of playing, my first place finish was good for $45,000, the largest prize I’ve won live or online.

I’m actually not going to post too many hands from this tournament right now because I’ve got a few other ideas. If they don’t pan out, I’ll post more hands later, and if they do pan out, then you’ll find out about them here, so just stay tuned. For now, here’s the entirety of the heads up match that concluded the tournament. UB doesn’t facilitate deals the way Poker Stars does (not that I would have been inclined to deal with this guy anyway, as I felt I was substantially better), so we were playing heads up for $18,000.

This guy was really bluffy, and I was very tempted to call the river. I’m still not sure it was a good fold, but he usually showed his bluffs, and he didn’t show this hand, so I’m inclined to say I was beat.

Like I said, he was really aggressive post-flop, despite being overly passive pre-flop. I checked the flop because it would be a tough spot if he raised and because I had a feeling he’d bluff at me if I gave him the chance.

Same deal as before. This actually illustrated quite well why I check the flop, because he probably would have check-raised with the nut flush draw, and I may have ended up folding the best hand.

Dirty, I know. But I do think it was only a matter of time before I busted him, as I had owned him hard in almost every big pot we’d played heads up.

  1. Congrats! Excellent score. I look forward to the rest of the FT HH. I know I witnessed a few very aggro hands there.

  2. Congratulations!!!!! We’ll have to celebrate this weekend. Try not to take everyone’s money at the game (except for Joe. You can take his. 🙂

Also, I like the little cards in this post.

  3. Jen,

Definitely, I am looking forward to it. Too bad you won’t be around until Sunday. I’ll try not to party too hardy Saturday night.

    Logan,

I was actually more excited about some of earlier suckouts, including K4s>JJ early in the final table, because losing those would have crippled me. I guess this is pretty cocky, but I was pretty confident I’d beat this guy even if I lost this pot, so really when the 6 hit, I was thinking, “That’s convenient.”
